Logging in

You can login to your Workplace account by visiting workplace.com. Read the articles below to find out more about two-factor authentication, resetting your password and troubleshooting the most common login issues.

  • If you're using Workplace Advanced and are having trouble logging in, you should get in touch with your community admin.
  • If you're an admin on Workplace Advanced and are locked out of your account, you can contact Workplace support. Keep in mind that the form only works if you're on your computer and signed out of Workplace and Facebook. If you're signed into either, the link will redirect you to the Help Center.
  • If your company is using single sign-on and you're having issues logging in, please contact your IT team.
  • If you're experiencing issues with your password, you can reset it.

If your Workplace account has been disabled, you'll see a message saying your account is disabled when you try to log in. If you don't see this message when you try to log in, you might be having a different login problem.
Why is my account disabled?
We disable Workplace accounts that don't follow the Workplace Terms of Use or the Workplace Acceptable Use Policy. Some examples include:
  • Posting content that doesn't follow the Workplace Terms of Use.
  • Using a fake name.
  • Impersonating someone.
  • Contacting other people for the purpose of harassment, advertising, promoting, or other conduct that's not allowed.
What can I do if my account has been disabled?
If you think your account was disabled by mistake, please use this form to request a review.
Keep in mind that in some cases we may not issue a warning before disabling your account.

This article is only applicable to users of Workplace Advanced.
If you don't have an email address, you'll have set up your account with a username and password. To log in to Workplace:
  1. Go to workplace.com or open your Workplace mobile app.
  2. Click or tap Log In > LOG IN WITH USERNAME or just enter your username.
  3. Enter your username and password.
  4. You'll now have access to Workplace. If you've forgotten your username and password or have never setup a Workplace account, please contact your Workplace Administrator.

To log out of Workplace:
  1. Click at the top right of any Workplace page.
  2. Select Log Out > Confirm.
Note: If you're a user of Workplace Advanced and your company uses Single-Sign On (SSO), to prevent someone else accessing your profile from this computer, you should also log out of your company account. If you don't know how to log out of your company account, speak to your IT department.

Password Length
Passwords must be between 8 and 20 characters long.
Password format
Passwords must contain at least one character from three of the following character types:
  • Lower case characters (a-z)
  • Upper case characters (A-Z)
  • Digits (0-9)
  • Special characters including common punctuation and symbols
Password Retries
If users enter their password incorrectly more than 20 times, they'll be temporarily locked out of their account before they can retry.
Default Password
There's currently no way for admins to set a default password for Workplace accounts.

You can improve the security of your Workplace account by getting an alert when someone tries logging in from a device or web browser we don't recognize. These alerts will tell you which device the person tried logging in from and where it's located.
To get alerts about unrecognized logins:
  1. Click on your profile picture in the bottom left of Workplace > click Settings > then click Security and Login.
  2. Go to Get alerts about unrecognized logins and click Edit.
  3. Choose where you want to receive your alerts, such as from your email account or with a Workplace notification from a recognized device.
  4. Click Save Changes.
After you start getting alerts about unrecognized logins:
  • When you receive a login alert, you can tell us if you recognize the login activity by clicking or tapping This was me.
  • If you don't recognize the login activity, click or tap This wasn't me and we'll help you reset your password and secure your account.
  • You can save a device or browser to your list of trusted browsers or recognized devices. This way, you won't get alerts about the computer or mobile device you usually use to log into Workplace. Don't choose this option if you're using a public computer (such as one in a library or cafe).

If you're using Workplace Advanced, to protect your security, your company may periodically ask you to confirm your identity using single sign-on. To authenticate using single sign-on, select Continue at the prompt. If you'd like more information on identity verification, contact your community admin.

Two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, two-step verification, TFA or multi-factor authentication, is a second layer of security that can be used on a website.
Using two-factor authentication decreases the likelihood of an attacker impersonating a user and gaining access to their account. The authentication method requires a password and username as well as an extra piece of information that only the individual should know.
Workplace supports two-factor methods such as SMS or authentication apps like Google Authenticator and Duo Mobile. Workplace also supports the use of security keys on approved internet browsers.

After adding a mobile number for two-factor authentication, you may want to change it later on if you get a new number or another phone.
To change the mobile number you use:
  1. Click on your profile photo in the bottom left > Click Settings > Click Security and Login.
  2. Next to Use two-factor authentication click Edit.
  3. Find the device you want to change and click Change phone number > Select Add A New Phone Number > Click Next.
  4. Enter the phone number you'd like to use for two-factor > Click Next > Enter the 6-digit code you receive > Click Next.
If you no longer have access to your two-factor authentication or can't log in, reach out to your Workplace admin.

The code generator feature can be turned on from all devices, but codes can only be generated with code generator from the Workplace app for Android and iOS.
Code generator is part of an extra security feature called two-factor authentication. If you turn on two-factor authentication, you'll be asked for a special security code each time you try to log into your Workplace account from a new device.
To turn on code generator from your computer:
  1. Log into Workplace.
  2. From your profile, click Settings.
  3. Click Security and Login.
  4. Click Edit in the Use two-factor authentication section.
  5. Click Code Generator then select Set up and follow the instructions.
To generate a code using code generator from the Workplace iOS or Android apps:
  1. Tap .
  2. Scroll down and tap Code Generator.
  3. Use the code to log into Workplace.
Note: Security codes can also be generated with a third-party app.

Security keys are part of an extra security feature called two-factor authentication. If you own a Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) compatible security key and add it as an authentication method, you can use it when logging into your Workplace account from a computer or mobile device we don't recognize. Using a security key adds another layer of protection to help keep your account safe.
Keep in mind security keys only work with certain web browsers and mobile devices, so you'll also need to have another authentication method, such as a mobile phone or Code Generator.

Adding a Security Key
To add or use a security key, you'll need to be using the latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera or Edge.
On a supported browser:
  1. Go to your Security and Login Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Use two-factor authentication and click Edit.
  3. Under Add a Backup Method, find Security Key and click Setup.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enroll your security key.
After successfully adding your security key, it will appear with the name you've given it in your Security Key section.

Using Your Security Key
If you have two-factor authentication turned on and added a security key, the next time you log into Workplace from a supported browser on an unrecognized device you'll be asked to tap your security key.
If you don't have your security key or it isn't working, you can click Use a different method to log in using one of your other authentication methods, such as a mobile phone or Code Generator.
If you lose your security key, delete it from your list of approved security devices. You can do that by going to Security and Login Settings and deleting it from your two-factor authentication options.

Workplace is hosted on Facebook servers. It's completely separate from our other products, but uses the domain facebook.com. We connect to this domain to confirm your identity and authorize single sign-on.

If you are part of more than one Workplace instance, you can switch easily between your profiles.
To switch your Workplace profiles:
  1. Be logged into more than 1 Workplace account simultaneously.
  2. Click on your profile icon on the bottom left.
  3. Select Switch Workplace and select your account.
